It does what it says on the cover!, November 2, 2004
Reviewer: Z Ornstein from Edgware, Middlesex United Kingdom
Stop reading about it and just buy the book - now! You won't regret it!
I really did lose one stone (well, a lb off it actually!) and 5 inches from my waist in 6 weeks just as the front cover says!! And I've now been doing it for 4 months and have lost 2.5 stone - but even more impressive is the fact that I've gone down 4 dress sizes!! I've been following the routine at my local gym (although I'd be happy to do it at home with a Swiss ball and some weights too, except I prefer the gym for getting in some cardio work). I've also followed the nutritional advice strictly - the book couldn't be clearer or easier to read.
A lot of the nutritional advice wasn't anything I hadn't heard before (being someone who's always interested in the faddy diets) but I liked the fact that the book gives you a bit about the science behind it. The recipes included in the book have been very useful too! I've followed the excercise routine 3 times a week and I've slowly been increasing my weights - I am definitely much fitter than I've ever been (I'm sure I've quadrupled my fitness as opposed to doubling it!) and I've never felt better - so just do it if you're considering it!
I can't recommend the book highly enough!

fit-tastic!, October 27, 2004
Reviewer: a4a4ever2k4 from London United Kingdom
I have nothing but praise for this book, i bought it from Amazon because I had neglected exercising for about 6 months due to a knee injury. In those 6 months i had gone up from a size 8 to a 12 and was feeling very unfit and flabby, especially around my thighs and stomach. As soon as the book arrived I read it from cover to cover, and started the programme the next day. It requires minimal equipment (a swiss ball and some weights) and the actual exercises are explained clearly and are easy to follow. Each exercise requires 25 repetitions, when I started i could only manage about 15 reps with a 0.5 kg weight. Now, a month later, I can do 40 reps with a 3kg weight, and 60 reps of the ab exercises. I have lost 5 inches off my waist and 2 inches off each thigh, and can now fit back into my size 8 jeans (which a month ago only fit up to my knees!). All of that and I didn't even follow the nutritional advice. In terms of the book's content, it is well laid out, in full colour, with photographs of each exercise, it also includes case studies and the science behind the programme, there is also an additional section on nutrition for those who want to change their eating habits as well. If you are serious about getting into shape this is the book to do it, but it relies heavily on self-motivation - which is easy enough as the results you achieve will keep you motivated.

The Body Doctor, October 3, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from London, England
Before I read this book, I thought I knew everything about diet and training - I was wrong! My girlfriend got the book, and I thought I'd check it out and see what it was about, I was very impressed, everything I had learned in 15yrs bodybuilding and boxing was in one book, and there was even things I didn't know. Since finishing the book, we have completely changed our diets and our training - my girlfriend( who is a self confessed chocaholic) has given up chocolate and biscuits and I'm back in training aged 32yrs for my next boxing bout.

This isn't a trendy diet - its about a complete lifestyle change!

Thankyou David Marshall

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!, September 7, 2004

I bought this book because I was looking more for a healthy eating plan than a diet. I read the other reviews and was convinced it was for me. The day the book arrived from Amazon I sat down and read it cover to cover - I couldn't put it down! The plan started with vigor the next day and I honestly think it has changed the way I'll eat forever. The workout is the best I've ever done - and I've been a member of a few expensive gyms. All you need is a gymball (about £3 from Argos!) and some weights (£5 from a carboot sale - there's always going to be someone at a carboot sale with some disused weights - almost guaranteed!). I can't get over the fact that you can get such an amazing workout in your own living room! I'm already feeling more toned, fit and healthy. I'm never hungry as the foods keep you going for so much longer than the food I used to eat (and I considered myself to be quite a healthy eater anyway!). After telling friends about it they immediately rushed out to buy it and are following the plan too. They think it's something they'll follow long term as well.
I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone, even if you want to follow the healthy eating, but not so keen on the exercise.

It's a miracle! I have a waist again!, August 17, 2004 Reviewer: Lucy E Ashby from Norwich, Norfolk United Kingdom
I had been feeling podgy and lethargic ever since my daughter was born 2 years ago. I bought this book in an attempt to kick start a healthier lifestyle, get more energy and to tone up. I have tried many types of exercise but I have NEVER experienced such instant and impressive results. I swear that even after the first couple of sessions I looked and felt more toned and by the second week everyone kept asking me "how did you do it!". I have been working out for 4 weeks now and am already using heavier weights and really enjoying the sessions. I am a single mum who works as well so I do not have loads of time to go to the gym or money for expensive equipment. I have managed the programme with a set of weights and that's about it. The book is really well laid out and the summary photos are especially helpful. It is excellent value for money. My friends and family are so impressed that 4 of them have got the book too! Thanks to you David I no longer look as though I am pregnant with a second baby!

BodyDoctor, July 27, 2004
Reviewer: Kelly Wood from London, UK
As many Australian ex-pats will agree, there is one massive downside to spending any length of time in the UK: the Heathrow Injection - an almost instantaneous weight gain that renders you almost unrecognisable to your friends and family back home.

Within two months of arriving in London 4 years ago, I was 1 and a bit stone more (just over 10 stone) than when I arrived (just under 9 stone). Most of it appeared to be on my stomach, waist and hips, and had I developed the dreaded bingo wings. I began to wear loose-fitting clothes and chose to ignore it. Until February, when I was invited on a beach holiday in September where I would have to expose my less than perfect self beside two of my friends who are models.

Cue the advertisement on the tube that promised 1 stone weight loss in 6 weeks. Straight into the bookshop to buy the book and then to Argos to buy the 'do it at home' equipment (I have an aversion to gyms).

Whilst I already had a relatively healthy diet, I did eat a lot of dairy, pasta, bread and drank a lot of beer. The change in food wasn't too hard to cope with as I really enjoy eating that way - chocolate and beer was the hardest to give up. I couldn't give up on drinking altogether, so I would allow myself a couple of glasses of red on the weekend as a treat. However, I hadn't done set exercise (I walk a bit and play the odd game of tennis) for a good 3 years, so the exercise was a shock to the system to start with.

The first few times I did the exercise I nearly cried with frustration - I was so much more unfit than I originally thought. However, it became easier each time I did it and I really felt like I was achieving something by getting 5 more reps in of each excercise as I built up to 25 reps. By the end of the first three weeks I was getting really low - I felt like I was working my heart out, and nothing was changing. Then all of a sudden it happened. It literally started dropping off. By the end of the six weeks I was almost 2 dress sizes smaller. The best moment was trying on a pair of jeans which I bought a year ago with the intention of 'slimming into' (which obviously I had never worn) - I had to hold them up as I walked around as they're already too big. The rest of my trousers are literally being held up by my belts. My whole body shape has changed.

I guess the best reaction to my weight loss has been the response from friends who didn't see me for the 6 weeks I was on the programme - such huge compliments. And the biggest compliment of all is that at least four of my friends have bought the book and started the programme (I've just seen one of them turn up for work in a pair of trousers that haven't fit her since last summer).

I've indulged a bit food-wise since the end of the six weeks, but by keeping up the exercise I've managed to maintain the the weight loss. But I do plan to do another six weeks of proper programme before I go on that holiday.

My friends and I think David is, as we say in the Australias, a legend.

Sensible, achievable and effective, May 10, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from York, N. Yorks United Kingdom
I've been doing the bodydoctor programme for four weeks, and have already lost 7 cm from my waist. But in some ways, that's almost beside the point: I feel healthier, my skin is glowing, I have muscles in places I didn't know there were muscles, I sleep better, I have more energy.

The nutritional advice in the book is sensible, and not at all faddy. The exercise programme is great, but it does take a lot of time. The book says that you can do the exercises in an hour and a half, but I haven't managed in under 2 hours yet, so it's not ideal if you don't have a lot of time.

Having said that, from the changes that I've had since starting the programme, I'm going to make sure that I make the time to follow the exercises from now on.

Awesome life changing, body changing book!, March 23, 2004
Reviewer: trooper276 from Coventry, United Kingdom
I discovered the bodydoctor plan after reading an article about it. I stuck to the eating plan (not a diet) and did the exercise 3 times a week - I lost 4.5 inches of my waist in 6 weeks (well I did have a takeaway or 3) and my fitness improved dramatically. After a years lapse and the gaining of half of the weight loss, I'm back on it again and seeing the same sort of results.

It's not a fad diet plan, it's a sensible healthy eating regime backed up by a well thought out and acheiveable exercise plan. The exercises are simple and help get you toned, supple and lean.

It's very simple, makes sense and gets results like you wouldn't believe. If you struggle with your weight, buy this book and do it by the letter - you won't be disappointed.
