Symptoms

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are:

  • joint stiffness upon awakening that lasts an hour or longer
  • swelling in specific finger or wrist joints
  • swelling in the soft tissue around the joints
  • swelling on both sides of the joint. Swelling can occur without or with pain,
    and can worsen progressively or remain the same for years before progressing.

Symptoms of gout are:

  • sudden onset of extreme pain and swelling at a large joint (usually a big toe,
    but occasionally other joints)

Symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (a disorder that affects the spine) are:

  • pain
  • stiffness
  • inflammation and changes in posture

Symptoms of infectious arthritis are:

  • body aches, chills and fever
  • confusion, dizziness
  • redness, swelling, tenderness, and throbbing pain in the affected joint
  • pain sometimes spreads to other joints and worsens with movement.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis are:

  • gradual and subtle onset of deep aching joint pain
  • limited movement
  • grating of the joint with movement
  • painful bony growths in the finger joints
  • may include wrist, knee, foot, elbow and low back pain
