The best diet counts for nothing if we do not digest and absorb!

To lose fat or lose weight it is important to combine a healthy diet with regular exercise

Gudrun Jonsson, best selling author and Nutritionalist, will week by week , aim to offer basic advice on your dietary needs to enable you to get your gut into good shape because the best diet and nutritional supplements count for nothing if we do not digest and absorb properly. I will now give you some basic rules to get you thinking and hopefully on the right track.

  1. Never eat more than you can hold in your cupped hands at any one meal.
  2. I advise clients to adhere to the food combining method as far as possible, ie do not mix starch and protein.
  3. Chew your food perfectly (when you think about it you will realise how quickly you eat, without giving your natural digestive juices time to work on the food in your mouth, thus almost missing out a whole stage of digestion.
  4. Remember how important it is to drink at least 2 litres of water or herb teas per day. We will start with a few basic recipes which are good for most of us.

BREAKFAST OATBRAN PORRIDGE

Grate a washed, unpeeled green apple and set aside. Mix oatbran with water in a small saucepan. Cook the mixture until it is the consistency that you like. Mix in the apple. Remove from the heat. Serve in a bowl with a little sheep or goats yoghurt.

If you are in a rush, just make up a smoothie using pears, kiwi fruit , goat or sheep yoghurt and a little Missing link and Argane oil.

LUNCH - AN AVOCADO OR SMOKED SALMON SALAD WITH PEAR

This light lunch is excellent for keeping your blood sugar even. It goes well with fresh herbs particularly rosemary, fennel seeds and fresh, grated ginger.

SUPPER GRILLED FISH WITH DILL AND LEMON OLIVE OIL SAUCE

2 Fillets of salmon or similar which should be marinated in 1tsp of lemon juice with a little seasoning and placed in the fridge for 1 hour. Mix together some dill, a little onion and 1tsp of capers.

Grill the fish on both sides with half the mixture spread on each side. Serve with steamed courgettes and serve with the lemon and olive oil sauce to your taste.

To make the sauce, chop up a whole, unpeeled lemon and together with 1 tsp of olive oil and 300ml of apple juice or water blend until smooth and the strain. This is a very useful sauce for protein dishes and taken on it's own is an excellent kick start drink for the liver.

I recommend mid morning and mid afternoon that you have a little stewed apple or pear mixed with a some Missing Link an Argan Oil, this helps you over those dips we often get at these times.

Before bed take a few stewed prunes and mix with a ¼ tsp of CALM powder. This helps your blood sugar to stay even, thus ensuring a good sleep and a feeling of brightness in the morning.
