Spring Clean
When you Spring Clean, we need to consider the possibility of you being constipated, in which case you will need a little extra help.
In my opinion, if you experience one or less well-formed bowel movements per day, you could be constipated. For me, two or three well-formed bowel movements per day, is the key to feeling great.
Why are regular movements of the bowel so important?
When the bowel does not move 2 or 3 times a day, the transit time of food slows down and purified material stays in the gut, releasing toxins. As a result, you may experience bloating, gas, fatigue, constipation, skin problems and weight gain. As any of you who have read my book Gut Reaction will know, I am obsessed with this subject and for very good reason. Consequently, I am always looking for good products to help with this wide spread problem.
Six months ago, I started using an American product, which is called "The 30 Day Advanced Cleanse System" and it is excellent. My clients have not experienced any of the adverse effects you might come across so often in less gentle products.
This system has been developed by Brenda Watson (a highly experienced colon therapist) and if you would like to have a copy of her excellent brochure explaining this product, please send an A5 stamped, addressed envelope to us at:

We are going to be stocking this product very shortly, Please call us on 020 7603 1926 for more information.
I will briefly tell you the key points about this product.
The 30 Day Advanced Cleanse System has 3 Parts:
Hydration
Cleanse smart - a dietary supplement that contains none of the harsh laxatives, Cascara, Sagrada or Senna but combines over 20 herbs for use in the morning and evening, which have traditionally been used to support cleansing and detoxification. It also contains magnesium, which helps hydration of the colon by drawing water into it, which in turn, stimulates peristalsis.
Bulk
Fibre smart is an advanced flax based fibre that does not contain Psyllium, which provides almost a 50/50 balance between soluble and insoluble fibre and it is less likely to bind or cause swelling than formulas that contain Psyllium.
Lubrication
Oilsmart an Omega 3 EFA oil formula (containing the digesting enzyme lipase), which in my opinion is one of the most comprehensive lubricating, oils.
Don't forget the golden rules.
- Drink lots of water (incl. Herb teas & vegetable juices). Aim between 3-4 litres a day during detox.
- After your diet, add more fruits and vegetables especially organic ones. Lower the amount of refined starches, sugar and processed food in your diet. Add a good daily fibre.
- Try to take digestive enzymes with your meals.
- Consider some gentle exercise.
- Sleep is important.
- Make time for yourself, particularly, make time to go to the loo - not in a rush.
Breakfast
Grate a green apple and leave to oxidise overnight (turns brown). This is a good kick-start for the liver, but be careful. Start with a small quantity, as it can be a little sharp. So at first, do ½ oxidised & ½ fresh. You can have it with goats yoghurt, bran cereal or oatbran porridge.
Mid Morning & Mid Afternoon
Drink vegetable juice e.g. celery, fennel, and artichoke.
Lunch
Any variation of fish/chicken with steamed vegetable or green leafed salad or buckwheat noodles.
Supper
For a treat at Supper, try a delicious Persian lamb stew.
Persian Stew
Serves 4
900 g (2 lb) lamb cut into 5cm (2in) cubes
2 onions, freshly chopped
150 g (5 oz) fresh fenugreek, chopped, or 1 tbsp dried fenugreek
6 dried limes
450 g (16 oz) broad beans
300 g (10 oz) fresh chives, chopped
300 g (10 oz) continental parsley, chopped
150 g (5 oz) lemon juice
1 bunch coriander, chopped
3 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
Sauté the seasoned meat and onions in 1 tbsp of olive oil until golden brown. Add boiling water to cover and let the ingredients simmer until the meat is almost cooked.
In a separate pan, fry the vegetables in the rest of the olive oil. Add to the meat. Pierce the skin of the washed limes with a meat skewer before adding them to the meat in the pan. Allow this mixture to simmer on a low heat for another half-hour until the limes and meat are cooked. Adjust the flavour with lemon juice to taste. Add the beans and simmer for a few minutes more.
Serve with selected vegetables.
It is also very important to exercise to help clean your system. Ask a personal trainer or fitness expert about a training programme that could help.
