Schoolgirl aged 15 yrs presenting with depression, panic attacks.
About a month ago, I had a very surprising case of a young girl who although, talented and beautiful, felt herself to be overweight, ugly and not a person people would like to be with. She had no confidence at all. This had been going on for three months. It is always a shock when someone so young with everything going for him or her, gets to the stage where nothing seems possible. Schoolwork, which she previously loved, was not being done; friends were no longer a part of her life.
As she talked, I found out that, just before the depression started, the skin on her face had been erupting and she was put on antibiotics. I am a firm believer in the theory that the skin mirrors the gut and I began to link the picture up.
Treatment
My first job was to try and enthuse her so that she would want to understand and take charge of her body. I must point out that I had also noticed she had very clammy cold feet and hands, which I always see as a warning that all is not well.
I explained the glucochemical response of food and why her energy was so up and down and also why she was finding food difficult to digest. We talked about how she could heal up her stomach lining, which in turn, would control/stop her stomach cramps.
I gave her some homeopathic tablets, called 'Spascopred', to be taken, in the event of that frightening tension and panic in her tummy which make her feel sick.
Luckily, her diet will not be too difficult, as she likes the easily digestible vegetables (broccoli, courgettes, celery and braised fennel). She likes chicken and happily loves fish.
We took out tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, peppers, strong spices, fine starch (bread and biscuits), sweets and sugar. She is also happy to drink lots of water and warm herb teas. It is also a Godsend that she likes rice noodles, which I find kinder to the tummy than pasta.
Of course, it is easier for me to treat people who like their foods.
She is taking a digest aid and acidophilus, both at the lowest dose and of the mildest type. She also has a special cactus extract, which she takes before food to stop her blood sugar swinging, which in her case, gave her panic attacks (blood sugar high) and total despair when blood sugar low.
She also takes Calm (1/4 tsp) with a few soaked prunes or apricots at bedtime to keep blood sugar even during the night.
Progress
I was so happy that after 2 weeks, she is sleeping, waking up brighter, without puffy eyes and generally feeling the black clouds slowly lifting. Her panic attacks are less frequent and she finds them milder and feels that she can control them now.
We will keep working together, until the happy child comes back and takes charge of her life again.
