Pre pregnancy fitness

Exercise programme, training programme

I always suggest that you seriously consider taking up a regular exercise programme, not just willy nilly but following a proper, carefully worked plan. This is something I would discuss with David Marshall (the bodydoctor). He will be a devise a suitable personal training programme.

In an ideal world i like to see a client before she gets pregnant and even better is when she comes to me at the stage when she is just thinking of a baby. Obviously this is not always possible, but it does give us an advantage if we have preparation time. I think of it as planning and planting a garden, i love to garden but i know that the more time i put in preparing the soil etc the better the results and the fewer problems i have to deal with. This may sound liike a simplification but as those of you have read my books will know i believe in keeping thins simple and as practical as i can.

I would recommend that you read gut reaction or the gut reaction eating plan (call 0207 603 1926 to order ). The reason i wrote these books is to make understanding your gut simple. This is where i believe we should start from getting the fermentation in the gut right. I usually find that it takes about 3 months for someone with a bad digestion to make good improvements. As with anything, the worse the problem the longer it takes us, but i think 3 months is a reasonable average timespan.

As we have mentioned over the last few weeks follow the basic food plan so that not only are you working on your digestion but getting your blood sugar steady so that you do not have those drops in energy and all you want is to put your paws in the biscuit tin! I would ask you to make a fruit or vegetable smoothie (adding omega 3 food balance and argan oil). This you should have mid morning and mid afternoon.

If your sleep is not good take a few stewed pruns or figs with a little calm before bed and this will not only help you to have a good sleep but also helps the body to be more alkaline.

We do use a homeopathic detox kit which i find easy to use and not too radical. (call 0207 603 1926)

Smimming and walking are also wonderful exercises for you, as is yoga.

I cannot stress the importance of getting into the right frame of mind before you conceive. Let me give you the example which sticks in my mind.

A lovely woman of 28yrs came to see me, i was not the first on her list by any means. She could not understand why she could not get pregnant. As far as all the tests etc she and her partner had undergone everything was fine. However although they had a very good sex life and both said they were happy in their high achieving careers, when i talked to her it seemed that there was no time in their lives at all for just being together on their own, in other words nesting. They both considered it to be vital to be either working or socialising, thus leaving no time to really unwind.

We concentrated on sorting out the constipation that my client suffered from, and she began to feel a little less stressed and felt better on the simple food plan. Her water intake increased and she started to say no to the ocassional social event at weekends. Her partner did the same. The result of all this was that they began to see that they needed to make room in their lives for such a big change as having a baby. This whole process took us over a year but it is difficult to change our habits and sometimes rather frightening. I do not claim to be an authority on fertility all i feel is that if we take some care of the body, we give it the best chance of being able to achieve our goals.

For clients who are on the bodydoctor web page we offer priority bookings. For a consultation with gudrun jonsson at her london practice call 0207 603 1926.
