Most people experience gout as a severe needle-like pain in the joints, especially the big toe. The gout is the uric acid the liver could not cope with settling in the system. Interestingly, most female gout sufferers will not refer to their condition as gout but high uric acid. Perhaps this owes a lot to the image of gout as a greedy or dissolute person's affliction.
Most gout sufferers have a build up of undigested protein in their gut from years of eating too much protein, usually meat. Typically, they are slightly overweight, although not in all cases. The usual scenario for a gout attack is a holiday, when the pressure of work - which for many gout sufferers is intense- has temporarily been lifted and the adrenaline has stopped pumping.
An intense exercise programme will make gout worse, but a gentle fitness training programme will be very helpful. The best exercises are swimming or a supervised routine from a Bodydoctor personal trainer.
Consult your Doctor first
Gout is not something that has happened overnight, and it can certainly not be eliminated overnight. Treatment is aimed at unloading the liver and changing the bacterial flora, but slowly- cleaning up the system too quickly can make matters worse.
The following should be followed for three to four months. If the gout does not appear when the body is stressed, you know the treatment has worked.
Switch to lighter types of protein- for example, chicken and fish instead of large steaks or platefuls of roast beef or pork.
Eliminate seafood, it is very difficult to digest.
Strictly monitor the volume of food you eat - remember no more than two cupped hands at each meal.
Eliminate heavy alcoholic drinks, such as spirits and port wine.
Take a mild acidophilus to help change the bacterial flora.
Incorporate into your diet unsaturated oils such as argan oil or udo's oil, they are rich in essential fatty acids, to clean the liver and pick up the toxins in the system.
Take the complex called boswellia (indian frankincense).
Take cal-m (calcium and magnesium in organic apple cider vinegar powder which is taken as a drink).
Take omega 3 complex which is a super food which contains eight factors we need every day (friendly bacteria, soluble and insoluble fibre, the efas omega 3 and omega 6, digestive enzymes, balanced protein, vitamins, trace minerals and phytochemicals.)
You must drink 2-3 litres of water per day. Tea and coffee do not count. Try to have herb teas in lieu of tea and coffee or try a dash of lemon with ginger and honey in boiling water, or water with alittle juice (not orange). It is very important that you flush from your system the toxins that are gradually released during the cleaning up process.
Vigorous exercise makes gout worse but a gentle daily routine with the bodydoctor's advice and swimming would be very helpful.
