Adventure Ecology - Making Learning An Adventure

Driven by their common cause and joint passion to educate, motivate and inspire the next generation on how to live a healthier and more environmentally sustainable life Bodydoctor Fitness and Adventure Ecology have joined forces.

With Bodydoctor Fitness educating youngsters about their immediate physical terrain through it's floorwork programme for children from the ages of 7 upward, and Adventure Ecology educating them about the environment.

Adventure Ecology is a free, extensive online educational resource that aims to create and promote a greater connection with the natural world through a series of high profile expeditions. Over the course of the next three years, Adventure Ecology will travel through some of the world's most dangerous, physically testing, exciting and environmentally fragile regions, not only highlighting and presenting the facts around global warming and climate change but also helping to promote the information needed to create lasting solutions. Bodydoctor Fitness has been given the task of preparing David de Rothschild physically for this monumental demand that will be placed on him in some of the most hostile conditions on Earth.

Mission 1 'Top of the World'

Late February 2006 marks the start of the Adventure Ecology series with the extraordinary and unique 'Top of the world' Mission 1 Expedition. ?Departing from Cape Arctichesky in Russia, a team of 4 highly experienced adventurers, (David de Rothschild, Martin Hartley, Paul Landry, Sarah McNair Landry) and 16 Inuit dogs will attempt a historic and grueling traverse of the Arctic Ocean via the North Pole, taking an anticipated 12 weeks to reach their goal, Ellesmere Island in Canada. Not only will the "Top of the World" team achieve an astonishing feat enabling them to utilise the magic and excitement of this great adventure to deliver a very important and much needed message, but they will also ski, walk, run and drive their dogs straight into polar history and the record books. This international team of adventurers will have a rare three month travel window across the Arctic Ocean allowing them the outstanding opportunity to gather and document one of the most inaccessible, and environmentally important regions.

The team will be harnessing and testing cutting edge satellite technology to post a series of daily, voice, text, and photographic dispatches to the world through the Adventure Ecology Expedition website. On completion of Mission 1, all observations and findings will be developed alongside leading scientific and educational organisations creating a collection of learning tools to be distributed to educational institutions internationally. This vital information will be presented through mediums such as interactive DVDs, websites, written media, photographic books and exhibitions all helping to further promote the issues and solutions that surround climate change and the effects on the Polar Regions and the rest of the world.
