Insurer backs new waist line
3rd February 2002
PPP, Britain's second largest private healthcare insurer, will today offer its 2.5m customers the chance to lose up to five inches off their waists in just six weeks.
The company has signed an exclusive one-year deal with personal trainer David Marshall, who devised the Bodydoctor Fitness and Nutrition Programme, which is currently used by Pop Idol presenters Ant and Dec and England International Rio Ferdinand.
Darrin Nightingale, marketing director of PPP, said: "We are co-branding a mobile personal trainer, comprising a manual, video and audio version of the programme."
The mobile unit will initially be offered at a special discounted rate to PPP's non-corporate clients, before being rolled out to all 2.5m clients by the end of the year. It will also be available to non-PPP customers.
Mr Nightingale added: "It is part of a whole range of schemes we have in place to improve the health of the nation." The Bodydoctor programme, which has received medical approval, found fame three years ago when it was used by supermodel Sophie Dahl, who dropped from a size 18 to a size 12 within five weeks.
Mr Nightingale said that PPP had chosen the programme because "lots of people have tried it, and they have all had proven results. It can be done by anybody from the age of 18 to 80."
It is the first time that PPP has entered into a sponsorship deal of this sort. "It is not obvious, like sponsoring the FA Cup," said Mr Nightingale. "However, it suits our motto: 'Let's pull together for a healthier nation'."
He added: "Not all our clients can afford £1,500 plus VAT to visit Bodydoctor's Primrose Hill gym for personal training, but we know they can invest £60 on this pack."
