Forte Village, Sardinia
Remember when Sophie Dahl shrank from a size 16 to a 10? The person responsible was David Marshall, aka the Body Doctor. Maverick personal trainer to the stars (fans include Kate Moss and Claudia Winkleman), Marshall specialises in reshaping the body through a programme of fat and weight loss achieved through sensible exercise (you wouldn't believe how easy it is to do an exercise slightly wrong and not benefit from it in the slightest) and healthy eating, which you can then continue at home. Marshall runs London gyms at Primrose Hill and St John's Wood, and recently brought his programme to the award-winning Thermae del Forte Spa at the family-oriented Forte Village in Sardinia, where his personally trained team runs the programme. Unlike most other fitness holidays, the advantage here is that you can take your family along, and there's lots for children to enjoy while you are suffering.
Citalia (0871-664 0253; citalia.com) offers seven nights half board at the Forte Village based on two sharing a bungalow room, including flights and transfers, from £1,075 pp in June. Bodydoctor packages cost from €320 pp, including three personal training sessions.
